In a recent event to celebrate the University of West Indies (UWI) Faculty Of Food And Agriculture's 100th anniversary of academic excellence in teaching, learning and research of food, agriculture and the environment, regional, global scientists, academicians and stakeholders convened to showcase contemporary food and agricultural research and innovations relevant to Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

WorldFish’s Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health, 2021 World Food Prize Laureate and Trinidad and Tobago citizen Shakuntala Thilsted joined the session to collate and share innovative solutions backed by scientific data and research experience in aquatic food systems to inform future research, development and decision making in Caribbean's food production sectors through the sustainable transformation of food, land and water systems.

Together with the other panel members, including Deputy Dean of the faculty Gaius Eudoxie, they discussed solutions to enhance the effectiveness of academic research towards decision making and policy development, facilitated knowledge sharing on food systems transformation amongst stakeholders, and encouraged stronger collaboration and networking among regional, global scientists and stakeholders.
